Crux's SE Asia (Malaysian leg) tour report featured in Maximum Rock n Roll #307

"Our Malaysian shows all had pretty varied line-ups and definitely featured some of the best bands of the tour. Getting to play with Carburetor Dung in Penang was a great honour, as they have been playing since the early 90's, and are seen by many as the forefathers of punk in Malaysia. That particular show was full of skinheads - something I certainly didnt expect to see here in Asia, but I was told that while there had been problems with racist-skins in the past (so called brown-power skins), this particular group was the anti-fascist variety (a good thing for us in view of our Vietnamese-born vocalist). My favorite band in Malaysia (and perhaps of the whole tour) was Kah-Roe-Shi, who pounded out some heavy-as-fukk hardcore sludge in the vein of His Hero Is Gone. Other awesome bands included: Infinite Delay (Discordance Axis-style grind), Daghila (fast, heavy, screamo) and Blood On Wedding Dress (power violence/thrash)."

- by Lex (Crux's bassist)

We would recommend you buying MRR's issue December 2008 to read the whole report of their tour.

Apart from the more known underground music scene in Sabah, we rarely heard anything from Sarawak. I only knew few bands like Kurasakuasa (Mass Separation played a gig with them years ago), Restart and of course the defunct Buddy Holly zine, Fist of Fury (RIP, now The Times?) and who can forget Sputum (grindcore used to be cooler than indie). And suddenly Kuching, Sarawak now is in the DIY bands touring circuit! Check out their community blog run by Yuen and his friends. 'Midin' distro anyone?http://borneodiyhcpunk.wordpress.com/

Oh, ya don't forget to google what 'Midin' means. Conquest for obscure punks!

Kah-Roe-Shi 'Shi' CD review on Bebal #4

Kah-Roe-Shi/Pazahora split 7" review on Punk Ping Pong #2

KAH-ROE-SHI is a new Malaysian band that plays heavy down tuned sludge crustcore with a mixture of NEUROSIS, FROM ASHES RISE. There are also 3 songs that also appear on the full length 'SHI' cd. I'm dying to listen to the acoustic intro of RACE DON'T EXIST song. It is really good before starting the song. PAZAHORA is from Singapore. Pazahora also has a good sing-a-long intro. They has a good song structure and a good vocals part but their song structure is not going top notch to blow my speaker. I do not hate their sound production, it's not bad but I'm just wondering if a good band like PAZAHORA can utilize a great sound to take a big impact in their songs. Taking influence from TRAGEDY, FROM ASHES RISE. PAZAHORA is good in doing their job. Anyway, both bands are my favorite bands rite now.
Kah-Roe-Shi 'Shi' CD review on Punk Ping Pong #2

Formally known as UNION OF SLAVES, KAH-ROE-SHI is another Malaysian band that is active nowadays. 7 tracks of heavy hardcore crust a la HIS HERO IS GONE, FROM ASHES RISE, KYLESA and the ilk. The sound production is very good. Not much band really care about their sound production. This kind of music must come with a very heavy and clean sound. I mean very detailed from their guttural vocals to the acoustic intro. I like this cd a lot. Oops..This cd also contains 13 minutes of live video of live video from the band. It's good to use an extra space on cd rather than let it be blank. NOTABLE TRACK - RACE DON'T EXIST. There are more than 10 label co-released this CD. Anyway, I just list one the labels - Bullwhip Records.

KAH-ROE-SHI - "Shi" CD
I have heard these guys on a few of their previous releases and have been very impressed by their variety of darkened crust. This full length did not disappoint. It certainly threw me off with the packaging being a mini burlap sack with their name written in Kanji characters. Admittedly, it took me a couple minutes to figure out this was the killer band from Malaysia KAH-ROE-SHI! Dark, heavy and thick crust-core with clear nods to FROM ASHES RISE and HIS HERO IS GONE. The lyrics of this band are especially good with lots of information and details in the booklet. A 13-label Malaysian collaboration. Great!
